Journal of anime ramblings, fiction works and reflections
I’ve noticed something with Ecchi/Harem OVA episodes I’ve been seeing recently: there’s hardly a distinction between it and hentai. When I saw Nozoki Ana in June, I thought that it was hentai that accidentally got placed in the list of ecchi anime. Tonight, Rescue Me! gave me that same impression so it won’t take long before I get used to getting the hentai shock – I’m actually used to it already…
Rescue Me! follows the protagonist, Mizutani Masayuki, a high-schooler who lives by himself since his parents work away from home (
Oh the things I would do were the house to be mine..for an entire year. Ohohoho). He comes home and gets surprised by Shimizu, his schoolmate, who is dressed in skimpy maid attire.
Because her parents are great friends with his, Masayuki’s parents asked her to be his maid and take care of his needs – and there are no limitations to these “needs” that must be tended to. It’s your basic
hentai ecchi, harem romance story. The characters are interesting. We’ve got the stereotypical envious guy friend – and he stays true to the role but I don’t really find him funny (usually I find his character archetype funny).
I hope there is a girl for him somewhere so he can get over his envy of Masayuki’s good fortune. Then there is the younger aunt – Yuka – who I swore was a brocon when she came in, yelled out “Onii-chan” and started flirting with him but I’m coming to understand how loosely this term is used – and the situations it applies to.
I just can’t imagine her being an aunt. Just what kind of shenanigans is Masayuki’s grandmother going on with?? He’s about 15/16 and that makes Yuka…say 13/14? Unless of course, she started really young (
it’s less disturbing for me to think about it from that angle).
Then there is the full-blown yandere…
This is Mai-chan, who is completely lesbo for Yuka. She wants Masayuki to impregnate her so she can have a blood relative to link her more to Yuka. It was hilarious especially her fantasy of how she would “rape” Masayuki. Everything is so clear in this anime and the only thing that is censored is the genitalia. Hentai does the same thing too and that makes it harder for me to accept this as just Ecchi. Highschool of the Dead is Ecchi – that’s the most perfect example I can find. But I guess both Nozoki Ana and Rescue Me! are labelled as Ecchi because of its softcore quality – although I think Rescue Me! gave A LOT more on the sex than Nozoki Ana did.
Shimizu is also a yandere but she’s a bit tamer than Mai. I like her character and I hope Masayuki gets with her. Surprisingly – it really is a surprise – he isn’t interested in any of the girls. There wasn’t even a flinching hint of arousal from this guy more than just his irritation with the absurdity of the situation. Don’t I know someone who would love to have this type of situation thrust upon him.
So this was basically about Masayuki, his interactions with the girls, and their sexual fantasies about him. In the end, Shimizu kissed him and he smiled (
ONE POINT FOR SHIMIZU!). At the end, he’s become a bit used to the situation – I think that’s because he exhausted his anger. Oh well, now that that’s over with, there’s a strong urge to read the manga – and I shall give in to it.
I bid you all farewell!
