She stared at the pictures, that brought an agonizing rush of memories and emotions – overwhelming her. She studied their smiles. The genuine happiness, the concrete love that each frame managed to capture. A love that had become abstract; whether dormant or completely extinct, she couldn’t tell.
She dropped the photos back in the box, and hugged it to her chest as she brought it outside. She burned them. Every one. Until vestiges of yearning for the past became ash within her.
He came home later in the evening and she smiled at him. He didn’t smile and brushed by her as he stepped inside their house. He frowned, hearing the shutter click of the camera, and turned to face her.
She kept clicking. Kept taking pictures. Even as he glared at her. She kept going. Followed him around.
Until finally, she captured his smile.
