Journal of anime ramblings, fiction works and reflections
Originally I wasn’t planning to even do an impression post about Yuru Yuri but then it sparked a bit of nostalgia and made me want to give a few reasons why I like it. Yuru Yuri is basically about three middle school girls who start a club (The Amusement Club) and are trying to find something to do – with a predominant lesbianism theme waving itself in your face (hence Yuri). But the actual plot is centered on Akarin, who lacks a sense of presence, and her friends’ attempts to help her have one – a strong one.
But Akarin becomes so lost in the story that it’s hard to remember that she even exists (
or maybe that can be blamed on my bad memory). It doesn’t feel like her show at all, which makes it so necessary to open the episodes with her as a reminder that the show is about her. So high-five to the directors to extending that atmosphere to me as well.
There are other characters who’re introduced as the episodes progress like Chisane, who joins the club and falls in love with Yui but is being chased by Kyoko.
Chitose, close friend of the Student Council vice president, has a thing for fantasizing about Ayano/Kyoko intimacies and that causes her major blood loss. I really like her character, she provides most of the laughs for me.
Ayano, the Student Council vice president, a tsundere who has a thing for Kyoko but plays hard to get close to. She taught me some pretty legit studying methods (
Number 9 is in order for trial and hopeful success).
Normally I wouldn’t like this anime so much as to categorize it as a favorite but it brought back so many memories and my biases couldn’t be helped. I went to an All-Girls high school and had a lot of “Yuri” moments. I gave breast squeezes a lot and held down my friends, pretending to hump-rape them. Needless to say, the consequences of that were scattered rumors that I was a lesbian but it was all in the name of good fun. Good times, good times.
The only thing I didn’t have, like most of the characters in Yuru Yuri, was breast envy and my best friend’s chest is massive and I loved teasing her.
I’m halfway through the series and really enjoying it, I like the fact that the Yuri content is mild Initially I never had a pairing, because I don’t care for Yuri, but I’d like to see something spark between Akarin and Chisane (partly because it would give Akarin more of a “sense of presence” and focus would have to be put on her to flesh out that budding romance). Chisane basically raped Akarin for a first kiss in the name of practice. Akarin has no interest in that lane of romance so it’d be nice to watch something come from their clashing chemistry.
Those are my thoughts for now. And I really love the opening song.
Otherwise, Elder Scrolls Online is coming out in Spring 2014. I am saddened by this news, I was hoping I’d get to play it by now but oh well, I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait.
Oh and cake!
Snake cake in particular…would any of you eat this??
I just feel resounding Nooo’s!!.
