Day 22: Let’s Talk Yaoi! (favorite Yaoi couple)

The terms Yaoi and Yuri were foreign to me until two years ago, when a friend of mine started babbling about how much she likes Yaoi but prefers Yuri. I felt a little jealous that I didn’t know these terms so I asked her to explain. So Yaoi is Boys love and Yuri is girl on girl.

I was a bit sketchy on the idea, then came the pictures of Yaoi, and I instantly became a fangirl. Leave it to anime to make me love these taboo sort of stuff. The first Yaoi I watched was Junjou Romantica. It was the absolute sweetest Yaoi anime I ever watched, and was a really nice “First”. The romance was fantastic, the conflicts and the humor were great. I loved how the characters flowed into each other, how everyone was connected through some way in the story so the plot flowed better.

Black Butler and Loveless are two other Yaoi anime that I have yet to watch. I started Black Butler but never got passed the first episode (don’t ask.).

So my favorite Yaoi couple is going to come from Junjou Romantica. While I loved the romance between Misaki and Usagi, they weren’t my TOP favorite.

Shinobu and MiyagiI loved Shinobu and Miyagi because of how their romance developed. Usagi and Misaki’s romance was a bit generic, as was Nowaki’s and Hiroki’s. I liked Miyagi’s character, an older male and heterosexual, being hit on by Shinobu, a student who fell in love with him. It was funny but also a serious situation. Miyagi upheld the principles of society, therefore homosexuality was not an option for him. Also, he was still in love with his dead love – who was a female teacher but she was sickly. And that makes Shinobi very similar to him – where pursuing a teacher/student relationship is concerned.

He attempted to use reverse psychology on Shinobu, where if he actually carried out intimate acts with him, Shinobu would reconsider and run away then leave him alone completely. The complete opposite happened and Shinobu fell harder for him. Epic fail Miyagi.

Miyagi-and-Shinobu-junjou-terroristBut it was all really cute. I loved how Shinobu broke down and confessed his love for MIyagi, when he cried because Miyagi came for him as he was about to leave (he was tired of getting rejected). It was all too cute really.

Miyagi decided to sacrifice his principles and the demands of the society, just so he could try at love again with Shinobu. The intimate moments had me melting. I’d make gifs but then again, it’s all R-rated and this is a PG-13 blog…I think.

Anyway, I loved the development of the plot and I also liked Shinobu’s determination and jealousy because it pushed Miyagi to really act on what he really wanted and to express himself freely. He became willing to fight for Shinobu’s affection and that was…I melted.

Yeah, Junjou Romantica was great. Yaoi is great! Shinobu and Miyagi are amazing.
