Journal of anime ramblings, fiction works and reflections
I’ve probably exhausted my love for Ulquiorra so far in my anime posts (and made it obvious with his picture on the sidebar of my blog), but I really love his character. And yes, besides being my anime crush, he is also my no. 1 favorite male character.
His character just has a very intriguing depth to it. His indifferent disposition is really unique, because even though it’s clear that he doesn’t care, I still have to wonder if there are any other emotions lurking somewhere inside him. The fact that he was capable of finally understanding what the heart is (and I seriously, cannot stress this enough) just shows that there was a lot more to his character than met the eye. He wasn’t just a callous antagonist, he did what he did because of his loyalty to Aizen. He didn’t go out of his way to cause trouble for Ichigo, or anyone else for that matter.
When he had that battle with Ichigo, I think it was done with the intent to teach Ichigo the true strength of the Espadas, rather than to just kill him. He wanted Ichigo to understand his place. But when he was defeated, he accepted it and didn’t try to continue on to assuage his wounded pride, but was accepting of the fact that Ichigo was much stronger than he was.
Orihime wasn’t afraid of him, because she knew he wouldn’t hurt her. He didn’t like unnecessary fights and actually had a pacifistic trait to his character. Ulquiorra was a good person, just misunderstood, I guess.
