Journal of anime ramblings, fiction works and reflections
Today’s 30 day anime challenge is: Cosplay of your ‘waifu’ or ‘husbando’. (In other news, the time frame on this thing is so confusing so my days are all mixed up x_x but moving on.)
This lov-er-ly man (Kaname) is the best Cloud cosplayer I could find. When I first watched Final Fantasy Advent Children, Cloud instantly became my favorite. I liked his character, how strong and conflicted he was. His character development was great and I cried a thousand times each time I watched the last scene, while my best friend laughed at me. Yes, so Cloud is my ‘husbando’. I love his skills, his bike and that Omni-slash move he used on Sephiroth in his final battle with him.
For those who don’t know the movie:
FFVII: Advent Children (directed by Tetsuya Nomura, and developed by Square Enix and Visual Works Productions) starts two years after Cloud defeated Sephiroth. Kadaj and his wing men, Yazoo and Loz, come to find Cloud who they believe hid their “mother”. Cloud had a solitary lifestyle after the death of Aerith (his girlfriend, killed by Sephiroth) and Zack (his best friend) and left the SOLDIER organization created by Rufus Shinra.
A disease started to spread, known as ‘Geostigma’ which was theorised to develop overtime as the body fought off foreign material that infected the body two years earlier. Wherever the stigma was, that region of the skin was darkly discolored, and mostly children (orphans) were affected by the stigma.
Cloud dealt with a lot of grief and guilt because of his past and the deaths of Aerith and Zack which affected his character and the effort with which he tried to fight Kadaj when confronted with him. Especially since he was affected by the Geostigma. Kadaj’s scheme was to gather the children, find materia (magical balls that when put in the body, gives an overdose of power) and mother for the big “Reunion”.
From what I remember though, Mother was the Jenova Cells, created by Rufus Shinra when he had made the SOLDIER organization. The plot is very complex though, and I had to watch it a few times, along with the other Final Fantasy installments to understand it completely. Sephiroth came back to battle Cloud and finish what he had started two years before Cloud had stopped him. His plan was to destroy the earth and create a new era with the cosmos where everyone could be together with this “Mother”.
Sephiroth, once the good guy and revered by the members of the SOLDIER organization because of his strength and great leadership, became corrupt and bitter when he found out that he wasn’t human but created by Rufus, using the Jenova Cells.
Aerith played a major role during the movie. At a certain point, Kadaj referred to her as “Mother” which was very confusing. Also, it was the healing water in her church that cured the orphans with Geostigma.
I loved the movie, it had some of the best fight scenes and even though I still hardly know the background behind Kadaj and his gang (although Vincent voiced quite a few theories in the movie), it wasn’t too confusing. The visuals were amazing and the story line was engaging. The musical scores were pretty great too. All the characters had a decent amount of character development, and even though Kadaj was the antagonist, his character was structured in such a way that at times, it was easy to feel sympathy for him.
It was really a great movie, I had three copies of the DVD (all of which I now cannot find ;_;) and I watched it religiously, every morning and night. I guess that’s why everything about it is still cemented in my memory.
Well that’s it for today’s anime challenge!
