She kept digging, mud and grime caking beneath her short fingernails. The rain beat relentlessly against her small frame, her sobs blending with its melancholic resonance. Her fingers dug at its exposed belly, causing her to cry out in apology. She cradled the dead sparrow gingerly, smoothing its dirtied feathers with light strokes.
Hearing the shuffle behind her, she turned and stared at her brother. In the darkness, she couldn’t discern his look but an unquestionable fear rippled through her.
“David?” She stuttered, blinking rapidly against the heavy rain.
I’m no good with titles. That’s the hardest part for me when it comes to writing, I have no skill coming up with titles and the ones I do come up with tend to sound corny or unrelated to the story in general.
That was my first try at some short story writing. I found some prompts all over the internet, jotted them down and decided to give them a try. The prompt was: write a story starting with “She kept digging…”. I put it to 100 words, since I struggle with short stories.
It also took me awhile to find the right kind of picture. The one I finally found was made by Roseeena on Deviant art.
Hope you enjoyed it.
