The Art of Writing

“Writing is supposed to be difficult, agonizing, a dreadful exercise, a terrible occupation.”
― Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing

What do I know about it exactly? Not a thing really. I’m a novice to creative writing and the passion that comes with it. Not really, but in a sense I am. I’ve had a passion for writing since the fourth grade and as I got older, there were different things that drove that passion. Little odd things, like: having new pencils to write with, new pens – which specifically had to be black ink or else my muse wouldn’t flow – buying a new notepad every day, finding music that helped to inspire my muse. Now that I’m older, that passion has been fluctuating so much. I think that’s happened because in some way, I’ve lost my love for reading (which my father and I discussed the other day, and he helped me to see it from a deeper perspective). I am trying to pick back up on all the things that feeds how much I love writing.

I think there are three main elements that lays the basic foundation to the art of writing: determination, dedication and discipline. And, I think those three actually structure a lot of other things in life and the way a person operates. There are a lot of things that usually discourage me from writing or trying to better myself at it sometimes. A lot of my discouragement comes from my own negativity towards my work, I never think it’s good enough no matter how much I write, no matter how long I stay up writing an entire book of whatever comes to mind.

I’ll think I’m doing a great job, but then when I read it over, it just looks like absolute garbage. Absolute garbage that persons who I let read it seem to like. There are hundreds of stories I’ve scrapped. Sometimes I don’t think I’ll ever be good enough to meet the standard of other great writers I set as my role models. Sometimes when I imagine myself in the future, I don’t really see myself being the successful journalist/author I’m studying to be.

I guess these are things that may naturally come, I’m not sure. Maybe the art of writing is really being able to look past the obstacles  and keep moving forward towards that dream of being a successful writer and turning it into a reality. Maybe, it’s being confident in the talent you possess as a writer and finding different ways to improve it. There are different things that trigger my desire to write; sometimes it’s music, an anime episode or just staring at the rain. From time to time I lose my like for writing, but never my passion. Hopefully that day never comes, because I would be devastated. But, on the bright side, as long as I have my functioning brain, hands and senses, there will always be more than enough to pump my mind with imagination and things to write about.

“And what, you ask, does writing teach us? First and foremost, it reminds us that we are alive and that it is a gift and a privilege, not a right.”
― Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing

Action and adventure, like God of War, Kingdom Hearts and so on. But when I get the PSP, *fingers crossed* I’d make a collection of Otome games

Ahh, I see… I like RPG type… lol and some other type… Most Otome games for PSP are in Japanese… >.< (I don't read Japanese word unless the one that looks like Chinese word, haha)

I used to watch gameplays of RPGs on YouTube and I play MMOs too, like League of Legends and Allods.
Ohh, haha, I can help myself here and there in Japanese since I dabble a little in it because I really want to learn the language

Writing is a spirit driven zeal that lies dormant in vacuum un awakened or not inspired can’t drive satisfaction. Help me to the wake of writing creatively, that I might stand in the to the help of others like me.

“which specifically had to be black ink or else my muse wouldn’t flow” Ha! For me it was a glittery gold ink pen that I scribbled countless stories with in middle school. When it died, I couldn’t write for the life of me for awhile. Blue ink just wasn’t the same.

Exactly! ;_; it just never is the same, but recently I interchange between red and blue ink for better muse, it’s much harder to write with black ink now. The irony of it all.
